WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE
Here at Simon Says Siamese Cattery, we breed Traditional/Classic Siamese cats. Obviously, we prefer this extraordinary breed. But what is the difference between them?
The Traditional Siamese cat or ‘Apple-head’ is a medium-sized cat with a round head, round blue eyes and a sturdy, muscular build. Male cats can weigh up to 18 pounds. These cats are thought to most resemble the original Siamese cats that came from Thailand.

The Classic Siamese is the look most of us are familiar with. With the colouring of the Traditional, the Classic is thinner with a finer bone structure. These cats have almond shaped blue eyes and sleeker coats. They tend to be somewhat smaller than the Apple-head.
The Modern Siamese is a very different animal. While the Modern has Siamese colouring, it also features a very triangular head, lean body type, large slanted blue eyes, very large ears and long thin limbs and tail. They are sometimes referred to as ‘Wedge-heads’ for obvious reasons.

The three Siamese types largely reflect the evolution of human efforts at refining the breed’s appearance toward goals set by show standards. There are many ethical questions around this practice. While the Traditional and Classic Siamese are very robust and have few health problems, the Modern Siamese is prone to dental issues and respiratory/pulmonary problems.
At Simon Says Siamese Cattery, we are not interested in breeding Siamese cats for any other purpose than to be the intelligent, loving and exceptional pets that they are capable of being. Siamese cats are extraordinary pets – we call them ‘dog cats’ because they have many positive dog traits. They are loyal, affectionate, and easily trained. They will run to the door to meet you when you come home. They are interested in being with you and sharing your activities, whether you want them to or not. Having said that, we adore CATS – and these guys are cats. They are elegant, proud, and sometimes out-spoken family members who will not be ignored. They are gentle natured, deeply intelligent, and athletic. This breed has earned its popularity.
